Lambs of spring

OK, well, I guess technically it's not spring yet, but the lambs are arriving. My friend Kim lives on a sheep farm and last night they welcomed two new arrivals, twin lambs! One black, one white. Their names? Love and Muffin. Get it? Love Muffin. So cute. Their little tails would wag as they got close to their mama and, more specifically, her milk.

Sunrise

This morning Paris and I got up early to go catch the sunrise at the beach. When we pulled up the sun was huge on the horizon, red and orange and yellow... but by the time we got out off the car and onto the sand, it had started to disappear behind the clouds. So I wasn't able to capture it in all its glory, but I did see it with my own eyes and that was enough. What a great way to start the day. (Paris thinks so too, as she is happily snoring away now.)

Cool random things

We went to a coffee shop in Albuquerque around the corner from the hostel on Sunday morning, and randomly there happened to be this guy there playing guitar and singing. Really? On a Sunday morning? How cool is that? Wait... is that Willie Nelson??

Earthships

Some friends and I went to visit an earthship community near Taos. What is an earthship, you ask? It's a strange name, I'll admit, but an amazing concept in green living. For a thorough explanation, visit http://www.earthship.net/web/. It's a totally self-sustaining home, harnessing the power of the sun, wind, rain water and melting snow. Truly amazing. And each one is unique to the people who build it, with special artistic touches throughout. I'm sold; I would definitely like to build and live in one someday...

These are the walls of the home, old tires filled with dirt. The aluminum cans help with insulation. All of this is then mudded over.

Can you imagine having this as your backyard?!?

Inside the home. Lots of glass jars are used as well, which add amazing color and shine.

Terra Encantada

So, New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment. It could not be more aptly named. I just returned from a week-long visit that included Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Taos. I wasn't truly drawn in until I drove into Taos, turning a corner with the backdrop of unbelievably huge mountains and the Rio Grande gorge in view. Oh, and the stars... you have no concept of how many there are up there until you shed some of that man-made light below. WOW. So, I think the next thousand entries will be dedicated to the beauty of New Mexico. I'm thoroughly enchanted.

Oh baby!

Last week I took my first-ever newborn pictures... what a cutie this little guy is. I swear he was camera shy, though, because at 6 weeks he managed on a couple occasions to actually turn his head away from my lens! Haha. The dog, on the other hand, was a total ham.

Puppies!

Two bulldog puppies recently moved in to my building... and they are CUTE! I took some pictures of them today with my new lens, which was challenging because it only works as a manual focus with my camera. These little guys move fast! Here are a couple shots of them in a brief moment of down time... makes you want one, doesn't it?

Glowing

Today I was honored to take pictures of my beautiful pregnant friend and fellow yoga teacher. We did them at her yoga studio, which gets amazing natural light. I have to say this was the most fun I've had doing a "photo shoot" because it felt more like we were just hanging out chatting and I just happened to be taking pictures. Natural, I guess. Not only that, she is incredibly photogenic! I can't to see what the baby looks like!

The beach in winter

I'll take the beach on a mild winter day over a hot summer day any day. Today we only encountered one other soul, an ecology teacher collecting water samples for a classroom experiment. Ahhhh... it's so nice to get some fresh crisp air.

Yoga!!!

I just got back from a yoga teacher training in the Rasamaya Method, as developed by Carrie Tyler of Dover Yoga. I was reminiscing about my initial 200-hour training at the same studio and looking at pictures online. Here's a picture of me in shoulder stand, getting a little lift from Daniel Orlansky. :)
